The Electric Sheep Company has launched version 1.0 of StreamJam, allowing artists to make live video broadcasts more engaging and social for their fans and more easily revenue generating. With version 1.0, ESC has added to StreamJam the ability to scale to many thousands of people at a single event and ticketing, whereby an artist has the option to choose to charge for entry to their virtual event. This feature, along with the sale of virtual goods within StreamJam, is intended to bring the micro-transactions of online games to artists and the music industry as a major new revenue stream. ESC sees this version 1.0 of StreamJam as just a beginning, with many more features coming.
To mark this launch, ESC held The Road to CMJ 2011 Contest, an opportunity for a winning band to earn a guaranteed spot at CMJ this year. HiFi Phantom was the grand prize winner of the contest, and will play at CMJ as part of the StreamJam showcase.
The StreamJam showcase at CMJ is set for October 19, 2011 at the Knitting Factory in NYC, and will be broadcast live within StreamJam. As part of its CMJ 2011 presence, StreamJam will also have access to the official CMJ Artist Lounge for capturing and displaying artist interviews around CMJ Music. StreamJam will also broadcast CMJ content including live music and interviews in partnership with the college radio station 95bFM.
